Pani Puri

Y'all. My mouth. is. WATERING looking at this picture and writing this description.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with this - Pani Puri is a hugely popular, and one of my favorite snack dishes from India. To eat this dish, you start off by cracking the little puffed crackers (Puri) with your finger to create a hole. In that, you stuff a spicy potato mixture then top it off with (Pani) a mixture of flavored water with tamarind, masala, and herbs!


I am going to be sharing my mom's recipe, and it is absolutely incredible. Enjoy ❤️

Pani Puri

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes


Ingredients

Potato & Chickpea Stuffing

1 pack of ready made Pani Puri Puri's

3 Golden Potatoes halved

1/2 cup chickpeas

2 green chilis finely chopped

1/2 bunch cilantro finely chopped

Seasoning: Salt (to taste), 1 tsp garlic powder, 2 tsp chili powder, 1 tsp pani puri masala, and 1 tsp chaat masala.


Flavored Pani

2 cups cold water

1 tbsp tamarind paste

1 green chili

1/2 bunch cilantro finely chopped

1/2 lime

Seasoning: Salt (to taste), 2 tsp chili powder, 1 tsp pani puri masala, and 1 tsp chaat masala.


Directions

  1. Potato & Chickpea Stuffing: Boil potatoes in a medium pot till softened. Cool completely and transfer in a large bowl with the chickpeas. Mash & mix till combined. Add in your seasonings, green chilis, and cilantro.

  2. Flavored Pani: In a medium bowl, add water with the tamarind paste and whisk well till combined. Make sure there are no clumps and no traces of the paste. Add your seasonings, green chilis, and cilantro.
